Although human rights violations cannot be completely eliminated, serious measures can be taken to prevent as many violations as possible. Human trafficking has been illegal since 1998, however, it has been a constant struggle to pinpoint exactly where the issue is most prominent and the main culprits. It has been prevented by means of rallies, campaigns to fight the issue, as well as some activists jumping directly into the issue by campaigning in areas known to be home for fetish priests. The most productive methods in terms of search and rescue have been the hands on efforts made such as campaigns and going directly to the source- homes and areas well known for human trafficking. Although the issue still stands, there are several small problems standing in the way of ending a big one. Things such as religious condonement, customs as well as family traditions are some of the main things preventing the coming of an end to human trafficking.
Whether or not a person believes in a cause because of a personal experience or just because it is something that they think needs to be stopped, defenders fight hard for justice. My defender Juliana Dogbazi had a turning point in her life. She was a victim of human trafficking and escaped it. This was a personal experience and a turning point for her to stop the violation of the Universal Declaration of Human rights. People fight for equal human rights if they feel that there is an issue that shouldn’t be happening. For example Juliana one of the defenders of human trafficking felt that it was wrong for anyone to be beaten and sexually assaulted by multiple people. In her situation her culture felt that the family would have to send preferably a young women to a lifelong servitude for the crime her family has made in the past. Julianas turning point was the time she completely escaped. She realized she wanted to help the other women and children in the shrine. Not everyone needs a turning point to defend and issue they believe in. They fight for the rights of people because they feel the problem needs to be fixed.
