Human Trafficking is one of the most modern forms of evil today. It is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, or harbouring of persons by means of threat, abduction, fraud, abuse of power to achieve exploitation and the use of sex slavery. Many people are trafficked in their own country. Human trafficking is a crime against humanity and countless number of women and children lose their lives, as well as their innocence, through this practice. An estimated 800, 000 men, women and children are trafficked across international border each year. The mass amounts of sex trafficking has led to a wide spread of deadly viruses. Causes of trafficking include poverty, lack of economic, social, and political stability, gender and racial discrimination, and an increasing demand for cheap and exploitable laborers. Besides that, an increasing demand for sex workers and a lack of public awareness, are factors that cause the issue. However, the concept of sex slavery has existed since the beginning of time.
Human trafficking is a violation of the Universal Declaration of human rights. It violates article 1 because it says all humans are worth the same. Article 3 is violated because when you are being trafficked you don’t have any independence someone controls your every move, and you don't feel safe being sexually and physically abused. Article 4 & 5 is also abused tremendously being trafficked you are tortured and sexually abused. When you are trafficked people don't pay to have sex with the woman most of the time. Most of the time It makes someone feel worthless, like they are nothing but a sex slave like they have no mind or feelings. In Ghana, human trafficking is legal which violates article 7 so you can't be protected from being taken and sexually and physically abused. Article 12 is sometimes violated when it comes to trafficking because someone can come in your house and kidnap you.
Human rights activists have been relentlessly battling the issue of human sex trafficking in Ghana as well as other parts of the world. There are currently several individuals as well as humanists who are working extremely hard to put an end to the horrific practices such as the trafficking of women and children so commonly seen in Ghana. The International Organization for Migration as well as the Ghanaian Ministry for Women and Children have been working alongside corporations such as the UNICF and the ILO to provide funding for multiple aid programs. The programs or centers provided are designed to rehabilitate and restructure the lives of individuals who’ve been forced into sex labor or other forms of human trafficking. With poverty and religious shrines being the main promoters of human trafficking, attempts have been made to offer assistance to families with children who could otherwise potentially become victim to various forms of human trafficking. Orphans, who would otherwise be left to aimlessly roam the streets, are taken to shelters and given food, schooling, and medicine. This reduces the chance of a youth being lured into the snare of a predator seeming to offer security. The use of more forceful tactics are being considered.
